Actually that's a good point. I'm not sure that I *do* know what a science festival is, and maybe that's why I've been reluctant to actually go to one. I know that I 'should' and I know everyone else goes, but I haven't quite managed to get over the fear-of-unknown and try it. Maybe this should be my year.

The main bit of it is 2 weekends of drop-in demos and exhibitions and talks and hands-on stuff, family friendly but the people running it are happy to explain stuff to anyone regardless of age. Usually one weekend centres round the science departments in town and south of town (biology, chemistry, psychology, medicine, &c.) and one around West Cambridge (physics, astronomy, computer lab, &c.)

There are also lots of talks on the weekdays in between and some demos (some of which you need to book for). These are mostly but not exclusively aimed at adults (you can assume interested adults rather than knowledgeable adults unless they say otherwise).

Also there are often plays, comedy, art exhibitions, music, &c. &c. and I think this year they're even holding a dinner.

The whole programme is up at the link above but there's a lot of it so don't get overwhelmed...

Thank you, that's a useful summary. I noticed a ceilidh, that might be a thing.
