Johnny’s Record Store
PG
Yes, of course, here's another AU story. As if there wasn't enough in this fandom.
Not beta-ed so you can play "Spot the blatant error." XD
It's also an ongoing thing, I'll possibly bore you all to death with drabbles from this universe.

Johnny’s Record Store

“What are you doing?” Kame barked when he saw the CD-the one he had just finished re-packing, still warm, the very last one of the huge pile- being reopened carelessly in front of his very eyes.

“I want to listen to it in the back store.” Came the indignant reply that made Kame itch with the desire to roll his eyes. Kame often wished he could be taller just to look a bit more authoritative, why wasn't he taken as seriously as other employee?

“Ryo-chan said I could.” Uchi cut before Kame could answer anything else, standing to his full height with the mightiest pout Kame had ever seen from an Osakan.

“Just one.” What Kame really wanted to say was that it as against regulations for a non-employee to hang out in the back store but Uchi had never opened the employee’s guide in all of his life and Ryo was rumoured to have burned his. Kame had heard something about it two years ago at the annual employee BBQ.

Ryo was also his sempai even if the line between them was felt tip thin. Ryo had been an employee longer and the fact that Kame was often the employee of the month and a section manager didn’t matter much. Hell, problem was almost all under Kame were employees that entered the company before or at the same time as him and older. Not by much, mind you a couple of year at most but still he was the baby of his section. Maybe he could complain to Yamapi, the other 3rd floor manager later. They did hate each other a while back but when they were promoted they went on a special training resort and had to pass a considerable amount of time together, they found a common ground.

As Kame watched Uchi stopped to show the CD to Yamapi and the two started to chat, Kame erased that idea from his mind. To think that he used to like Uchi when they were younger, and proclaim it in public.

As soon as he entered the back store, Uchi was welcomed by Shige and Tegoshi on their lunch break, Koyama and Nakamaru reviewing the admission test to apply at Johnny’s Record Store.

The CD laid aside while Uchi caught up on the everyone’s life and the latest gossip in the store. Junno paused his inventory work to show him the latest game for a Nintendo DS; it was only when everyone returned on the floor that Uchi remembered that he didn’t work at the Shibuya branch anymore.

He glanced at the schedule, he recognised most of the names but at the same time there were several new employees. He had put in a demand to retransfer for several months now but no success yet. When Johnny rehired him and sent him to work at a kiosk for a 3 months festival, he’d been exhilarated. He was asked to work with Hasejun an old friend of Yamapi. Ryo visited them on their first day to give them a refreshing course on working the cashier and other protocols.

The festival was now over and he hadn’t any news of being reassigned to either the Osaka branch or the Shibuya one. He didn’t like to show it but he was getting nervous.

“Hey you’re here already?” Ryo-chan entered with his clip board and fashionable pants, he was a far cry from the Ryo he first met that wore nothing but cargo army pants.

“Yeah, I got here quicker than usual today. You still finish at 4?”

Ryo nodded while typing on his keyboard with expertise, there were darks circles under his eyes.

“You look like crap.” Commented Uchi never one for tact.

“I’ve worked 14 days straight.”

“You weren’t working the past 2 days.” A quick look at the schedule told him so.

“I did in Osaka.”

“They should let you rest once in while.” Uchi said automatically though a few years back, working 2 weeks without breaks were normal for the two of them. Only it wasn’t the two of them anymore shuffling between Tokyo and Osaka, just one.

“Like Johnny is going give me vacation. I’m okay. Let’s just take it easy tonight, If you don’t mind.” Ryo added as an afterthought since Uchi was his guest since Ryo invited him for the week-end in Tokyo.

Uchi shrugged, he didn’t have the intention of dragging Ryo to a club but he didn’t like the tired look on Ryo’s face. Ryo had the tendency to accumulate work and crash when his body gave out.

Jin burst in the back room with his cell phone out; eyes finding who he was looking for. Yamapi followed but with papers in his hands, actually pretending to work.

“Ryo! Yuu just texted, there’s this new bar opening tonight. It’s going to be awesome!” Jin leaned next to Ryo showing him the flashing screen even if Ryo blatantly ignored it.

“I can’t.” Ryo replied, his back was turned away from them.

“Why not?” Jin pouted, putting back the cell phone in his pocket even if it was forbidden to keep a phone during work.

“I’m doing something with Uchi.” Ryo knew he had to give a legitimate reason to refuse Jin.

“Ditch him.” Jin was almost gleeful as if finding the solution to a difficult puzzle.

“He’s right there you moron. And no, we already have plans for tonight. I’ll pass.” Ryo slammed the papers to Jin’s chest before walking off back to the floor.

Jin’s eyes grew wide at Uchi who waved with a bitchy look on his face.

“I’m sorry Uchi. I didn’t meant it against you, I just wanted Ryo to come. You can come too.” Jin finished off lamely. It wasn’t that the two of them didn’t get along, Uchi knew that Jin didn’t mind him. But Jin was also used to go out with Ryo whenever the latter was in Tokyo. They had their own little gang that were going out to the best parties, the cool kids that were the envy of most of the other employees.

Uchi only answered by shrugging his bony shoulders.

“Not cool Bakanishi.” Yamapi muttered to Jin, hitting him in the shoulders before throwing an apologetic glance at Uchi. After all Uchi had been in Yamapi’s team for about 3 years and while they weren’t the closest, they did get along.

“I’m Ryo-chan’s guest and he said he already planned something.” Uchi answered fiddling with the button of the stereo.

“Ryo-chan needs food and sleep more than going off to a club.” Yamapi said to Jin as he finished printing labels, once they were dry he waved in Uchi’s direction before disappearing back to the floor.

“Next time?” Jin threw the olive branch to Uchi who debated between accepting the idiot’s apology or being snarky. He chose the former; he didn’t need to cause a rift between Ryo and his Tokyo’s friends.

--

Uchi had hoped that Ryo would finish on time but when Tackey had begged for Ryo to stay just 30 minutes more, Uchi knew that they wouldn’t get out right away.

But he couldn’t stay in the store any longer. He was growing antsy staying at the same place even if Tackey had sworn that he was more than welcomed to stay. Uchi told Ryo he was going to walk around and to call him when he was ready to leave.

Strange how this building held some of the best memories he had ever had.

He stepped out adjusting his sunglasses like a superstar before walking into someone.

Worse was that he knew the person.

Shirota Yuu was fairly easy to spot anywhere, the Spanish gene he got from his mother made him tall and light skinned.

“Shirota-san, long time no see.” Uchi said wondering if he would remember him, they did hung out together a little when Uchi was in Tokyo years ago.

“Uchi! Are you back in Tokyo?” Shirota pulled his own pair of sunglasses off his eyes to the top of his head.

“Just for the week-end. Are you going to meet Jin… dressed like that?” Uchi smiled a little seeing Shirota’s dark blue shirt with the pink HMV logo on the front. Shirota had tried to interview to work at Johnny’s Record store about the same time as Jin and Kame but all the positions were filled so he took a job at their competitor store just a block east from them.

There had been friendly banter between Shirota and the rest of the guys fuel by their competitive nature ever since. Especially worse when Jin’s own little brother was recruited by Yuu to work at the “enemy”. If Uchi hadn’t sign a contract with Johnny forbidding him to join other record store, he’d probably ask for a job.

“Yeah, he said to swing by during his and Pi’s lunchbreak.” Yuu smirked, a plastic bag filled with bentos swinging from his left hand.

“How’s your brother?” Uchi asked, he had meet the guy twice but heard so much since he was worshiped by everyone it seemed. Ryo couldn’t stop gushing about Shirota Jun’s clothes especially when he got shirts for free.

“He’s great. Hey, are you guys coming tonight? There’s this new place opening. And, you’re legal now, right?”

Uchi winced, little thankful that Yuu’s voice was trying its best at being casual. He’d probably never would get rid of his reputation as the “drunk” so he’ll just have to live with it.

“Thank you but no, Ryo had something else planned. And yes, I’m legal now.” Uchi nodded putting his hands in his pockets.

“Okay, well, we planned a Wii tournament tomorrow at Jin’s place. You’re welcome to come. A shitload of people are going to be there.” Yuu added and it gave Uchi a warm feeling that Yuu was inviting him even if they barely knew each other.

“Like who?” Uchi asked, Ryo hadn’t said anything but then again Uchi had mentioned going to places on his own during the week-end, he didn’t want to burden Ryo too much.

“The gang,” Uchi knew that included Ryo and nodded while Yuu continued “Matsumoto-san might make an appearance and Kato-kun.”

“Shige?” Uchi was a bit surprised at the inclusion, usually Shige was more into hanging out with Koyama or studying at his university.

“Pi said that the guys were hanging out with him more, they said that he was cool. Well, I better go inside. I hope to see you tomorrow.” Yuu bowed slightly before putting back his sunglasses on his eyes and strutting inside.

Uchi smiled as he watched him leave, he wished he could have that much confidence in himself as Shirota Yuu did. He used to have all the confidence in the world.

Funny how quickly things could change.
