Question for people in L.A.

My roommate is moving to Los Angeles next year since her future husband is doing his doctorate to University of Southern California. I was talking to them about how I saw LA (not a big bad city like in the movies) and they asked where I suggest they should live ( Read more... )

As I understand it, the area around USC isn't very good (although if you live farther away, the commute is terrible). I don't know much, but I'll ask my brother, since he actually lives in LA proper and might know a bit more. (A lot depends on what they can afford, of course, since the nicer parts of LA are unfortunately quite expensive.)

LA was really not their first choice....they didn't want to move to the USA but it was the better offer for him. So, having advices from someone who lives there help a lot. I have no idea what they can afford, frankly, I know he's getting a lot of funds and scholarship. But, they'd probably be wanting a nicer part of LA (since kids are part of their plans eventually). I know they will go down there and check out places in a few months, so having an idea of which neighbourhood to look at is easier. They can start looking at what's available through the net too...it's just that now for them, it's a huge city they've never to.

I said that Pasadena is really cool, but it might be too far away for them. XD
