The recent downloadable content choices by both games previous incarnations make it pretty clear which direction each franchise is heading. Rock Band is focusing on a broad-appeal, jack-of-all-trades song list. Guitar Hero is focusing exclusively on wankery. Expect Rock Band 2 to outsell Guitar Hero: World Tour, by a large margin. Activision has flat-out indicated that they don't get how Harmonix is successful with Rock Band, but the answer is simple: every week, we get downloadable content that's PLAYABLE
