My grandmother is coming home from the hospital with no real caregiver at home to speak of. My uncle is adamantly opposed to nursing homes, however, so we're going off half-cocked here. I think his reasoning is that between my mother, myself, and him we can manage to have someone there with her at all times ( Read more... )

I've run into this many times in my work; families can't stand the idea of their loved ones being brought to nursing homes, because of the rather negative view that they've had for years.

However, in my grandparents' time, you went to a hospital to die, and so they did everything they could to avoid that. It took years a lots of work for that view to change. In the upcoming years, I think the same will happen with nursing homes.

Has there been any talk of looking into hospice care at home, with some nursing help?
