Kind of, anyway. Since I'm not reading fanfic, I'd really like to read some real books this month. Problem is, I don't know what I should read. Basically I'm fishing for recs here. What are some books that are definitely worth a trip to the library? Please, no long long series (I'll read Mercedes Lackey someday, I'm sure, but not this month ( Read more... )

fandom: supernatural, fandom: merlin, books recs

My favorite book ever? "Almost Like Being in Love" by Steve Kluger.

I recommend this to everyone: Feed by M.T. Anderson. You can borrow it next time you come over.

Looks good, I had to read 1984 and Brave New World for a class this summer and this looks like something similar (but much more modern).

Oooh! I agree. I read the Enchanted Forest books (Dealing with Dragons, Talking with Dragons, etc) when I was younger and loved them. I'm definitely going to have to track down some more of her stuff!

She collaborated on an epistolary-type book with Caroline Stevermer called "Sorcery and Cecilia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot", which is basically a Jane Austen novel with magic. It has 2 sequels, as well.

YA:

"Hero and the Crown" and it's follow up "The Blue Sword" by Robin McKinley.

"A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Or, hell, most things by her.

A Family Apart (Orphan Train Adventure Book 1) by Joan Lowery Nixon. I'd also rec "In The Face of Danger (Orphan Train Adventures).

Or were you looking for more "grown up" books?

YA is always a good way to ease back into reading. Hero and the Crown sounds like fun, I'll definitely be looking for that one.
