French parking

French parking and driving is definitely, erm, different than it is in the US. It seems to be that in France anything goes. People park on curbs, park with only an inch inbetween their car and the car in front of them and use bumpers as bumpers when navigating a parking spot. In America if you did any of those things people would be aghast.  ( Read more... )

I remember the first time we drove in Paris. I was terrified! I explained it to friends and family back in the US as "mad shriners!" (Does that reference make sense to you? *smile*)

But yes, I was terried. It's so funny thinking back on those first couple of experiences now after years of driving in Paris. spacegirl74 and I even drove around the Arc a few times ... and it didn't even phase me any longer. Major progress for me from those first days! =)

But I will NEVER be able to park like the French! It really IS amazing!

I recall taking photos of parking spots and the ingenious ways the French found parking. One took one's life in one's hands when crossing a street against traffic.

I love Paris. Fabulous blog.
