I didn't think I'd have anything to say about this...

but I find something about Michael Jacksons death to be  a relief in the same way its a relief to see a wounded animal put down. I find something so tragic about him- he used to be so vibrant and joyful and in the past years he has just seemed sick both mentally and physically. He was tormented by the media and his unusual ways did nothing to quite ( Read more... )

You know, you just articulated the exact way I feel about it too. He really was out of options. :-/

It occurred to me many times during his trial that the only way people could love him again, might be if he died. I reflect on that and I find the sickness and my disgust with humanity, even in their predictability. Michael used to help me deal with that...

Hm.

I thought of you immediately when I heard the news. I know he had special meaning to you; I hope you are well.

I always felt sorry for him. I was too young to really remember his 'glory days', though I can look back and appreciate them. By the time I was really old enough to be aware of him he was entering his trial years and the beginnings of something comparable to being a circus freak; something to openly gape at like he has no feelings. The attentions paid to him made me uncomfortable.

I thing the real shame is how quickly we are to forget the humanity of people who are not standing right in front of us. He became an open target for those with their needles deep in the vein of conformity, and especially those too young to remember that he was something quite unique were more than happy to go along with it.

While I was never a huge fan of his music, I have to admit he did have a couple of really great songs(Thriller, anyone?), and I certainly gained a new level of respect for him when I discovered he wrote his own music, as opposed to just performing the music of others. He was definitely one of a kind. It's unfortunate that he was such a damaged individual, but growing up in the circumstances he did, how could he have ended up anything else? It's all a very tragic story. As you said, I hope he has found peace.
