More Gramma Lottie

Aug 23, 2009 21:40

Recently someone posted on our family website a photo of my Gramma (dad's mom) taken in 1910 when she was 12. I felt exactly as I did when I saw the photo of her at 17 - just like looking in a mirror. (Also, what is up with that bow!) I think the photos are big so behind a cut....

I never met my grandmother, who died when dad was 16 (16 years and, I think, six days - some birthday present), so it really tickles me when I see photos of her that I hadn't seen before.

I really like when I see people who strongly resemble other family members. Not that having a family resemblance is better or worse than not having it - I just like seeing it.

Thanks! I love that so many of my relatives have photos and spend the time to scan them and put them on our myfamily.com site.

I belong to two myfamily.com sites, but the genealogy is usually several steps removed from me with the DeMaranville and FitzRandolph families.

I never knew any relatives until an unknown sister found me about five years ago. She had been given up for adoption at birth and was trying to locate family. She had hired an attorney, and when she found me, she gave me the names of some potential relatives. I became great friends with a distant cousin, and she shared her love of genealogy with me. We were plotting out my genealogy in depth when she began to decline and died from cancer. I haven't done much with the genealogy since. The real fun of it was sharing with her. I miss her.

Aren't websites like that so very awesome?

You do look like your grandmother, don't you? I look quite a lot like mine - but am a good bit older now than she was here!

And older than she is in this one, too. I am getting old!

*sigh* I know the feeling. The two women who sit closest to me at work are 27 and 30 and were both complaining last week about feeling old. I told them they're not allowed to complain about feeling old until they're working with women literally young enough to be their daughters! (And I hope I get to be much older than my gramma, who died suddenly at age 58. Literally dropped dead of a stroke one morning after breakfast. It shook me a bit when I realized that was actually only six years before I was born.)
