Rant time...

May 15, 2006 23:26

I haven't had a good rant in a while. And no, this rant does not involve the Red Sox in any shape or form. This rant involves a TV show, one that is very popular. One who's popularity I cannot understand. A show I have tried to give a chance numerous times. And after tonight, I say "NO MORE ( Read more... )

No one I know thinks Meredith is a heroine or an example of empowerment. In fact, everyone I know pretty much hates her and "McDreamy" and think that they are meant for each other in that "shitty people deserve one another" kind of way.

"Shitty people deserve one another." Now, I rather like that view. I think my main problem is the majority of my friends don't think this. They believe "McDreamy" really is dreamy, and he and Meredith are the perfect, wonderful, loving couple. None of them will consider that it is an unhealthy relationship. Honestly, my mom is the only person I know who hates them, though she still loves the show.

If my friends had the same attitude as your friends, I think I'd be less hateful towards the show.

Yah girl,

I know EXACTLY what you're saying, I tried to get into Grey's Anatomy too, and the only redeeming female character in that WHOLE show is the girl being played by Sandra Oh !!!

PLUS, the boy who is so in love w/ Merideth is also mad lame too

Sandra Oh's character is really the only female character I like.

I want to give Meredith and Izzie a good slap. I'm glad I'm not alone-- I just can't understand the show's popularity when I want to strangle a majority of the characters. I mean, I can't stand Kate on "Lost"-- but I love Sawyer, Eko, Ana Lucia (RIP), Sun, Jin, Bernard and Rose, Sayid, Locke...more characters I love rather than detest.

ok, i actually like the show, and i do have to say, no one is perfect. nobody. karev is an ass, mcdreamy is sad pathetic, addison is a cheating wife who then tries to get her husband back, the cheif cheated on his wife with meredith's mother, izzy goes against all medical ethics and her better judgement over denny and gets her just reward, george (though i really like him) slept with meredith even though he knew it would be a disaster, and then had the nerve to be hurt when it didn't work, christina is an absolute coward, burke is pretentious and arrogant, bailey has her own flaws....am i fogetting anyone? i think the point of this show is that life, and people, are messy. they are imperfect. they are weak. this show shows human weakness, which is not something that is seen very often on television. i LIKE the show because it shows the flaws of the characters. i don't like my characters to be bastions of strength, and role modles, and whatever. they aren't *interesting* if they are. they, like real people, are messes most of the ( ... )

I do like, and appriciate, interesting, flawed characters. I don't want anyone to be perfect. Perfect knights in armor are boring. But what bugs me is that the flaws, in my opinion, completely outweigh any positive aspects of the characters. I've become so focused on their mistakes that I can't concentrate on anything else. I can't figure out yet if that's good or bad writing.

Plus, characters making the same bad decisions over and over again makes for boring television.

But to each her own. I'm clearly in the minority on Grey's Anatomy.
