today is random Band of Brothers day, with some other shit thrown in for kicks.

Over the past couple of days I've been rewatching Band of Brothers again. I love that series like burning. This is probably the fourth time I've watched it all the way through, and yet I can never remember characters' names beyond, like, Col. Winters -- which is not saying much, seeing as he's the central character. I've never been able to, not ( Read more... )

Cover guy looks like a long lost member of Danzig or maybe the guy in the band in the first Lost Boys movie.

Band of Brothers is good. I liked it the first time I watched it. I really should watch it again because I think Jamie Bamber is supposed to be in it and I totally forgot who he is.

He's kind of horrifying! The other thing is that I cannot figure out who he is, because he CANNOT be either of the two main characters from the previous three novels. In which case, wtf is he doing as the cover guy for the series finale? I suppose I should read the book and find out . . .

I have THE worst time remembering who is in BoB. It's pretty much constantly a surprise to me when I see the actors elsewhere (Guarnere on 24, case in point).

I saw The Hurt Locker already, mainly because I had a thing for Renner back from S.W.A.T. (DON'T JUDGE ME), and it's definitely interesting. Hard to watch, though.

(RANDOMLY, he is also in a new TV series that premiered tonight with AMBER TAMBLYN or whatever her face is. Joan of Arcadia. She's supposed to be a cop, but she looks exactly FIFTEEN, which destroys it for me, which is sad because the rest of the cast is pretty damn amazing)

My tolerance for war films is EXTREMELY low. I can watch stuff about World War I & II, but any of the more "recent" wars (Vietnam, Gulf I, Afghanistan, Iraq) just makes me feel absolutely numb in a really disturbing way.

Haha, I am such a ridiculous level of internet failure even after all these years -- I pretty much always still FORGET that just because something hasn't been released in theaters does not necessarily mean it's not available on the internet. Duh, self.

REALLY NOW. She totally does always look like she is fifteen! That is a sad story. I might have to check it out anyway, because . . . he's hot.

It's sort of sick to phrase it this way, but WWII is absolutely my sweet spot of war anything -- my favorite to read, watch, whatever about. I feel incredibly undereducated when it comes to the more recent major wars (and TOTALLY uneducated about more minor wars the U.S. was involved in) and that makes it pretty uncomfortable for me, because I was alive for three of the four you listed, and yet I know basically shit nothing about what even HAPPENED. I mean, largely because I was either a tiny kid or a teenager who didn't give a fuck, but still.

The Hurt Locker has actually been out for a LONNNNG time. It was like Taken - I watched that movie like six months in DVD quality before it hit the theatres.

Yeah, it's called "The Unusuals". There was absolutely NO advertisement for it - I just happened to find it channel surfing. I was like, HOT SWAT DUDE. HELLO!

And then there was a fifteen year old jean-swapping girl with a gun. It was... kind of ridiculous. I feel bad because I actually don't mind her, but she looked WAY TOO YOUNG for that role. SIGH.

I know a LOT about WWII, but I also know a hell of a lot about most wars seeing as my grad studies were all about ethnic conflict and war. But I know a lot about the holocaust. I just feel a total emotional disconnect from modern warfare because it's so... cold (not that I get a warm fuzzy feeling about war normally). Now that war is more mechanized, it feels even more inhuman. Some tech in Denver dropping a shitload of bombs on a town in the middle of Iraq. Soldiers driving around Humvees with machine guns mounted ( ... )

I realized that when I actually looked into it! I was just distracted at first by seeing mentions of its theatrical release on June something.

Interestinggg. May have to check this out anyway, because of the sheer attractiveness of Jeremy Renner.

No, that makes total sense to me, because that's kind of my feeling on it as well -- that WWII is more comprehensible to me than any more recent wars.

I find the cover dude to be an odd cross between Fabio, Richard Dean Anderson, and Shawn Spencer (from Psych).

Like I said, odd.

Obviously Roe should be with Babe, for the snuggling in the foxhole.

This is a deeply logical bit of thinking!

Also, you're kind of my go-to source for fic from random fandoms, although it usually seems to end up being more like, you hand me something and say READ THIS and then shortly thereafter you find me commenting on every Merlin fic ever written . . . ANYWAY, any good BoB out there?

Also anybody with Speirs, because he's fucking HOT! Also, I'm not sure there is any. There seems to be a sizable number of Nix/Winters, but not that much of anything else. I SHALL LOOK.

Re: Corambis: HAHAHAHA. That's way worse than the first three covers, which is REALLY saying something. I'm glad you alerted me that it was out, though!

Right?? I was pretty embarrassed by 1-3, but ho boy, I had no idea. Glad to have been of help! Let me know when you are done with it; I would be all over chatting. (I'm on page 60 or so right now myself.)
