Finally, I rejoin the realms of paid accountness! :) For now, anyway. Am furiously uploading icons that I see and love and I suspect I'll be commenting in random communities just to use various icons.
Anyway. Exhausted. Quickly though:

I agree that Cutter really helped bring a new energy to the show. Coupled with Rubirosa and the cops and of COURSE, McCoy - I think this current cast has really revitalized the original series, which makes me way more happy than it probably should (fannngirl ahoy!).

That is to say, not every cast member needs to be a rape victim. Nor does anyone need to be kidnapped. Etc. Sometimes, life can simply be a group of people that are doing their best to get their job done the absolute best they possibly can. Is it possible Cutter's enthusiasm could stem from some personal issue? Yes, of course. Is it necessary to understand Cutter?
Absolutely not. He, McCoy, Rubirosa, Lupo, and Bernard are working for one common goal--the truth. It's law the way that it should be. Despite a person's personal motivations, it does not overshadow their actual actions. For instance, in Falling (thanks for the title!), Cutter's motivation and ambition to protect the disabled child was admirable, but his actions (trying to manipulate the plea bargain in forcing the parents to raise the children his way) were not. McCoy probably recognized the motivation and ( ... )

I agree entirely about the difference between TOS and SVU/CI. Well, SVU is much more out there than CI - it's just become the Elliot and Olivia Trainwreck, but that's another rant in itself. At least Chris Noth quit CI before they could do more damage to Logan's character (*wishes to erase CI S.6&7 from his history* - oh look, another rant within a rant!*)
I'm excited that there's another person around here who likes to discuss these kinds of things. There are a handful of us who discuss the episodes each week over at johnjmccoy - a small but random and fun bunch - and on our personal journals as well. Glad you're joining the fray!

Haha, I have no friends who're really engaged fans of Law and Order, so I saw that commentary post and got really excited. I'm just a total nerd, I guess. :) You'll see more of me butting my nose into people's conversations over there, I bet.

I'm glad that the original Law & Order is sticking to the story of the crimes while keeping the character info as a "need-to-know" basis. Although last weeks episode of SVU went back to how it used to be, most of the 9th and 10th season has become "The Elliot and Olivia show" and that sucks!
I'm still sad that Chris Noth left CI (or was he fired? I don't know) but I am going to give Jeff Goldblum a chance.
