*must.pick.self.up*

Exams are not over, it's not because I've failed the two important ones that I have to fail the 3 I still have to pass.

And no, it's not like I always say I've failed and then end up having a great mark, this time I've really failed. The subjects were horrible and despite working my butt off for to weeks, literally not taking any ( Read more... )

I haven't got a clue about how it works in Europe, but in Australia, if you've failed an exam you may not have necessarily failed the entire subject - how'd you do in the rest of your assessment, and how much % is the exam worth of your total mark? Also, in Oz, if you have a fail in a subject, you can talk to your lecturer/professor and ask if there is additional assessment pieces you can do to get your mark up so you don't have to repeat. If you get your final grade back and it's a fail, talk to your lecturer and unit co-ordinator about your options. Don't stress just yet!

I need an overall of 10 to pass the year so let's say I get 8 and 12 (for each semester) I still pass. I also have repeat exams in June but I've never ever needed them! I'm the person who passes her exams first time every bloody time and I'm just so angry that everyone assumes I'm going to pass cause I'm not!!! Aaaaargh. Sorry for the rant, it's just that everyone's expecting me to do well and because of that they don't want to listen to my complaints!

Odd system... is 8 or 12 the better option in this scenario? Let me just say that when it comes to masters degrees and applying for them, they don't look at each individual grade for each subject so much as they look at your GPA. If you've gotten really excellent marks for every other semester, one off one probably won't impact on your overall GPA too much.

You're allowed to rant matie - I'm just trying to say that there are loads of ways for you to improve your grade and pass and keep a decent overall GPA. I'm trying to help you stress less! You've put in the effort and perhaps this time so many other things have affected you on the day - the amount of sleep you got, how anxious you were, the way the questions were phrased, anything. That's why I hate exams as assessment methods - it's like IQ tests, where you can do similar tests and get different results every single time.

Just wait til you get to your masters degree and you don't actually have ANY exams at all. Yeah, that's the good stuff :D

no I meant that 8 and 12 were ok because they average out at 10. Our grades go from 0 to 20 and we need an overall 10 to pass. But we can have let's say 4 in 2 exams but 16 in two others and still pass. THankfully!

I'm definitely sleep deprived which never helps. I usually try to get a good night's sleep before exams but this time it didn't happen. I've been so hung up with them and because of stupid neighbors I can't sleep well when I want to. Lots of factors but the result is still that i'm going to get bad grades. :(

Masters... thing is, if I don't get these exams I might never have a masters!

Hmm, sorry for being all negative today! I know you're just trying to help!

Don't feel bad unless the marks turn out bad because at least you have an opening to retake the exam with a lot more time to prepare. At my uni, the final grade for each class depended on the professor's system, and most would never hear of allowing a second chance at a final exam. Generally, in my subject area 50% of the grade was the written project, and then the mid term and final comprised 25% each. In order to be awarded the degree, one had to score at least above the 80% range up to 100% in all of the upper division courses. My marks generally came out in the 90% range and it's a rare bird who manages to stay at the upper end of the range for their entire uni career. The percentiles get translated into the GPA: A (90-100%) grades are worth a 4, B (80-89%) grades a 3 and so on. Those who have the 4.0 GPA get to graduate summa cum laude. I'm sure you'll be in cum laude territory Catzy...
