I respect that directors have their own visions. But when it comes to how a novel or story ends, I think directors should leave those things alone. The author wrote it that way for a reason.
Different formats have different needs, I don't expect films to be exactly the same as the book, but that sounds extraordinarily bad. It changes the whole feel of the ending!
Thank you for telling me about the actual ending of the novella. I've seen just the ending of the movie version, because it made it onto a 13 Best Horror Movies clip show I was watching (it's like a list in filmy form!) and I had to agree that it was a powerful moment.
But! Hearing your description of the ending of the novella, I think I would've preferred that. There's such a thing as Too Much, and despite how visceral that portion of the film was, it was too much for me.
Sorry for spoiling the ending of the novella for you, but I hope you'll still read and enjoy it! I had such a strong connection with that story, it was incredibly frustrating to see how the director changed it
( ... )
Oh don't apologize for spoiling the ending of the Mist novella; I'm a pro-spoiler girl. I like spoilers, because I'm secure in the knowledge that my reaction will never be exactly your reaction or anyone else's, if that makes sense.
Korean horror movies. They are where it's at. I highly recommend Arang which I will watch with all and sundry, as being King-style spooky and a good mystery to boot. It has one triggery scene, which I'm happy to spoil for you (again, spoilers: they are our happy little friends who look out for us) but otherwise it's remarkably straightforward psychological horror.
But I do love a good clip show.
That one that the Mist appeared in, I did not need in the least to see those movies. The clip show was movie enough for me.
