I enjoyed that. I have a soft spot for characters-as-children story (somewhat embarrassing, I suppose) and I really did enjoy Luna and Neville and Hermione in there. Lavender's bit was good, too, but did not quite resonate as much with me.
It was interesting to see the child-parent interactions of the characters we see grow up in the series, and rather spot-on, especially for Neville and Luna, I think.
I liked Ollivander, too. His behaviour was quite IC, in my opinion.

did not spot the canon violations
Hehe. *giggles* Look again. One is really big, the other two are tiny, and I only spotted them because I'm listening to the audiobooks these days. This is clearly a test for canon nerds.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the story. I had so much fun writing it, especially with making up the little details to flesh out the characters.
I have to admit that Lavender's part was the hardest: she is such a girlie girl, which makes it very hard for me to connect to her character. I clearly prefer the weird and the bookish. *g*

If you like those, I have another one that you might enjoy. It's about Barty Crouch junior and his dad.

Nevertheless: Ooooh, lovely! *squees*
You told me about that and I love what you made of it. You draw such nice pictures of the characters just before school. Such different families and different ways to shop for their supplies. Who cares about canon!?

I think I spotted the canon violations: Luna being a year older, Ollivander using Veela hair and dragon scales in his wands, and Neville's grandmother buying his toad?

Well done with the detective job: you've got two out of three. And you've spotted a new one, the information about Ollivander's wands, but I was counting that one as artistic freedom. *g*
There is yet another one to find!

Admittedly, the only violation I recognized was the one of Luna being older. :|

I'm so happy that you liked the overlaps! I wanted the children to meet each other without really meeting, more like an interaction from a meta point of view. *g*
Binky: There is this paragraph in Harry's letter from Hogwarts that the children are allowed to bring an owl, a cat or a toad. So I tried to use that as a starting point. Funny thing is, it leaves me wondering why Scabbers was allowed. Maybe JKR simply forgot to mention rats in her list, because with Scabbers as well, it is mentioned in PoA that he has never showed any powers. Powers and usefulness to the wizard seem to be important in determining whether an animal can count as a familiar.
I guess I should make another post with the solutions about the canon violations. :-)
