Well, I broke down and went to see Religulous, Bill Maher's documentary on religion. Now go before I go any further, I should mention there are spoilers in this post so if you don't want anything to be revealed before you see it, now would be a good time to stop reading. Very interesting review! You're much more thorough with your deconstruction than i was.

And Maher did a good job pointing out that Christianity's ressurection theme had been done in other religions. Maher points out the story of Osiris among others.
I thought that part was really interesting. because there are those who assert that all religions are valid & everything's connected, so for them, hearing about some other form of religion that was similar to their own, wouldn't threaten their own beliefs at all. And then there are others who are very much "our religion is the one true way, and other religions are phony."

Insead, Maher basically insists that religions are pretty much the root of all evil and we should do away with them.Yeah I think that was a leap, based on everything else in the film. Sure he shows that there are a lot of people out there who believe some strange things, and some of these things cause harm -- but by no means does he prove that all aspects of all religions are harmful.
