I did not want a chicken. But one moved into our backyard this summer. She's been eating scraps out of our compost heap, bugs and gastropods, and no few of my precious heirloom tomatoes. She poops everywhere. She's very skittish, and I can't get anywhere near her. I'm not a fan of chickens in any case. So today, K and I were looking out the window ( Read more... )

....get a terrier... it'll solve the chicken problem (unless it's a abject coward) At least it's just chickens. If it were geese your only hope would be animal control.

Gads, I'd rather have chickens, than a terrier. (We have five now, intentionally - chickens, not terriers ;-)

Yeah. I think one of the major reasons that the chickens moved into our yard is that we're the only ones on the block with no dogs. We also had a turkey for a few hours last Sunday, but it went home with the person who found it. We are, at this point, actually pretty sure there are at least three chickens.

Oh no! Not chickens!

What a mess with all the poop - and now there are two. Perhaps a terrier really would scare them off; I'd give it a try.

We have backyard chickens...three of them. They belong to our neighbor but like our backyard better. Maybe its because we have a big yard but we have no poop problems and they eat ticks. Plus one of them follows us around and says "cluck cluck" companionably.

Not fair, we had to buy chickens. You get magical free chickens.

Have David build some nesting boxes and set them up on the south end of the yard. You can always line them with some of the 8 foot tall weeds from your neighbors yard. 16x16x16 inches is a good size.

Organic Eggs. mmmnnnnn.
