D&D with Skype

Tomorrow is the official start of our D&D campaign, and I'm really looking forward to it!!! Even better, technological issues have been resolved - mainly in the form of the arrival of serenhybrid's webcam. I have a microphone (courtesy of DSA equipment) and Rhodri has a webcam, which he'll be bringing round so we can use it. And earlier serenhybrid and I tested out what ( Read more... )

Depending on what your play style is (and which edition of DnD you're playing, you'll probably want to figure out quickly how easily serenhybrid can see your battle map, or whatever else you're going to use during combat. When we had a telecommuting player, we'd typically set up the camera and then mark out the edges of his vision with spare dice to make sure we didn't draw maps outside of his range of vision.

Also, at least with our mike, the person on the other side had trouble distinguishing voices, so multiple people talking at once can be disorienting.

Finally, make certain to mention whatever snack food you have on hand and how good it tastes. We always did this to our telecommuter just to let me get a feel of group camaraderie.
