Evangelical Christianity

*groans*

I'm sorry, but Evangelical Christianity is really frustrating me at the moment.

Their attitudes to Catholicism is really frustrating me. On several occasions while I was at home people from my home church went on a rant about how Catholics aren't Christians (worship the saints as idols, worship Mary (same reason), heretical, blasphemous). ( Read more... )

christian stuff, confusion, hurt, evangelical christianity, sunglasses

There are indeed many unfounded prejudices against Catholics, based completely on ignorance. It's sad.

Hold on in there. Things will get better. Sure your glasses will show up soon.

Prejudice in any form is ugly and I'm sorry you've been on the recieving end of late.

Still nothing from Kim about sunglasses. I can only assume they've not turned up in the big church spring-cleaning last Saturday and that someone's picked them up. They on't be any good for anyone else unless they've got *exactly* the same prescription as me!!! Seriously, though, if I've not heard from Boots by the time I go into town tomorrow, I'm going to go in and ask, and if there's still no sign of them, I'm going to tell them I'm really not happy about this. It would probably be quicker to buy just the frames, send them to my home opticians, ask them to get them made up to my prescription and send them down here!!!

Argh!!!

I'm going to invest in one of the Catholic books I've had recommended to me. The one I have at the moment, "Catholic and Christian", would be good for certain people at home...I've lent mine to Donna (one of the CathSoc people) at the moment. It's soooo useful.

Would write more but I'm about to go and look at this house with Emiliana.

So this is your rant - it's good to get stuff out, isn't it?

I agree with you that there's all kinds of Christians, and what works for one person in serving God doesn't work for another.

I won't be seeing Shakespeare in Love tomorrow :( I spent this morning in bed cos I wasn't feeling well, so I've got some catching up to do. Hope you have a good time, and that your sunglasses show up soon! xx

It is sad when one group takes to 'dissing' another (to use vaguely contemporary parlance) in order to build up self-image.

I will take compassion and good works from any direction - be it Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist or whatever.

What frustrates me so much is that most of the people with the anti-Catholic attitudes can't actually justify their conviction on the matter - they've never questioned whether it's right or wrong, or looked into it at all, so they're sticking to the inaccurate things they've been taught and don't actually know the truth. Maybe this is an advantage of not being brought up with a strong Christian background - I'm perhaps more open to other stuff.

Stupid people are such a turn-off. It's so much harder to avoid stupidity and ignorance when its coming from people at church though ( ... )

I agree with you completely that English is really anonymous. When I go to lectures I see sooooooooo many people I just don't know and it's like, You're on my course ( ... )

I know more people in English after the Creative Writing modules. It's more personal, I guess - or maybe I just get on better with the creative people!

Yeah, by the last term me and my roommate just flat out stopped going, with no real excuse. The dinner one is perfectly valid, I feel - what kind of a system is that anyway??? I got back so late on thursdays I'd missed the late dinner deadline, and Anne had to nick me some sandwiches. Which were usually quite gross.

All hail little bible study books!
