[mal/inara and wash] plant life

Another Firefly drabble! Hooray! Except, uh, I didn't really stay true to the prompt. Darling, I'm sorry. You wanted Inara and Wash, and I tried really really hard, but I just couldn't do it. Instead, it turned into Mal and Wash. Inara is in there though, somewhere. Hope it works for you anyway!

For: agent_rouka
Prompt: plant life [inara and wash]

OMG. Poor, pathetic sad Mal. A flower! He so would do that! Take it down into his bunk and put it in water and name it something really stupid and cheesy. Then when he felt lonely and miserable, he'd talk to it and look to the flower for comfort. *sniff*

And... heh! Wash picking flowers for Zoe!!! So cute! Married Zoe/Wash love! And Mal, so not getting it until Wash explained. WAH. *tear*

If it didn’t hurt so much, he would smile.

Poor pathetic Mal.

Oh, hah! Best idea for a sequel EVER! *grins*

Married Zoe/Wash love!

How can you resist the adorableness that is those two? And I think that is totally something Wash would do; go and pick her flowers. And he'd smile all goofy like when he gives them to her, and she'd just have that little half smirk on her face because she's really touched but trying not to show it.

Poor pathetic Mal.

*sighs* Yes. Don't you just want to wrap him up in your arms and cuddle him to death?

Awwwwww, girl, this is gorgeous!!!

So sad and funny and bitter and adorable...

I love that Wash comes up with this. He so rarely does the bonding thing with Mal, but he does like him and... oddly enough this seems really plausible, that it would be Wash of all people to broach the subject so subtle, and that Mal wouldn't rip his head of for it because Wash is the only man he knows who can actually make it work with a woman.

I can just see it, once it starts wilting away Mal will feel utterly betrayed by the flower. He gives it water and nice artifical light and puts it in the company of his other plant, but no... it's not good enough. Has to die on him and go away. Flowers. No need for them. And then he'll look at the capture again. *sniff*

Also, the beginning is hilarious!

THANK YOU!!! I love this one. :D

*squees* I'm SO SO SO glad you liked it! It took me quite a while to come up with something for that prompt; I'll tell you that!

I really love Mal/Wash bonding. I really do.

because Wash is the only man he knows who can actually make it work with a woman.

SUCH a fantastic point that I had never even thought of before. So very true, and yes. It makes complete and utter sense. You are so clever!

And then he'll look at the capture again. *sniff*

HAHA! That is exactly what he'd do! You know he totally would! Ah, poor Mal! So sad, so lonely, so damn stubborn!

No, thank you! I'm overjoyed that you liked it. *smooches*

Love Wash's perception into Mal's feelings. Picking flowers for Zoe is so typical of him too.

"He can’t stop looking at it, can’t stop running his fingers over the soft petals, can’t stop breathing in it’s subtle perfume." I love this line.

Yeah, Wash knows the deal. He knows Mal is stubborn and silly but deep down isn't happy with leaving Inara at the Training House. He also knows that nothing he says will change his mind, either. Hence this subtle but sweet gesture. *grins*

Ah, thank you! I quite like that line, too. Thanks for your lovely comments!

Oh, so beautiful and sad... poor Mal, sitting in his bunk, watching that beautiful flower wilt and die and fade away, until he has nothing left of her, er, I mean it *G* Love it's silky, ravishing red petals, lovely image, and him stroking them softly, breathing in it's scent like he has with Inara a hundred times before...

so sad and lovely... I love Wash givin' it to him, and that Wash *understands*

the whole thing is beautiful!

Ahhhh.

=)

Gently, carefully, reverently he sets the flower into the mug. Takes a step back.If it didn’t hurt so much, he would smile.

Loove those lines. Beautiful. And they do seem to encompass all that is Mal--loving, wanting, needing, but just not strong enough to admit it--damn him!

I must agree with Agentrouka, though it made me smile to read of poor Mal talking to a flower *grins*, it would be just like Mal to feel betrayed when the flower would wilt away.

And yeah, much love for the beginning, with Mal wondering why the hell Wash's giving him flowers...

Good job! =)
