It's all in that last paragraph...

Jayne is almost surprised. But then Kaylee turns and looks at him, smiling brightly and eyes sparkling and he can’t help but smile back; and of course he’s not surprised. Kaylee has a way of making even the surliest brutes melt into a puddle of goo.

He should know.

A little chagrined, a lot impressed, it's such a cute and obvious comparison, hehe. And exactly the kind of way Jayne would phrase it. *G*
