Wonderful. Now I have to re-read as I didn't recall Rumpole being able to cast a charm.

I had heard about Rumpole (from Tudorpot, I think) but I have never yet read a Rumpole book. However, I am now a fan, thanks to you, and I'm pretty sure I'll read the books. Your Snape is superb, too - I remember a passage, in part 2, I think, about his "gravedigger eyes" and his voice of "vitriol and silk". Must go back to reread.

Rumpole is well worth knowing. His character got its start from a TV series, where he was played by Leo McKern:
