Long, roundish, white grain (non moving) in fecal = tapeworm, correct?

Should I just dose with Drontal or take Apollo in and get something stronger? I've heard some OTC dewormers aren't 100% effective.

edit; either way, I'll be taking him in - I just wanted to be efficient in taking care of the worms while I wait for his appointment date.

ew! gross! worms!

I never really saw them in their fecal when they had them. But I did see them on their fur near the butt and they were moving. ekk! Looked like grains of rice.

I tried the over-the-counter stuff once and it didn't work at all (and was just frustrating to both of us for no reason). The prescription pill was the only thing that knocked it out. Good luck!

Yeah; they're pretty gross when they're still moving (or dead, lol)

It's weird because they're definitely dead when he goes to the bathroom and they hit the litter; I doublechecked to see if there was any movement and there wasn't any. There isn't any around his butt area, thankfully.

Yeah. Most of the stuff you can buy in a pet store won't work, but after many incidences of going to the vet for prescription pills, I did some research and found these (which worked great, and dont require a prescription): http://www.amazon.com/Tradewinds-Feline-Tapeworm-Tabs-3-23mg/dp/B004KPLX2K

I've used the Tradewinds pills on Abby when she's had worms. They're amazingly effective, relatively inexpensive, and clear it up quickly.

I've used those before. They worked really well.

Drontal & droncit are both commonly used for tapeworms in the shelter. There is also injectable droncit, which will work better if you have problems pilling your cat or if she foams when pilling.

but if it looks like grains of rice = tapeworms
if it looks like coiled up spagetti = roundworms

I used profender for all 3 of my cats - and it worked a treat,. I liked it too because it was in a pipet thing like revolution etc, not a pill.

Mine only got it once from a time they stayed with my parents farm while we had a house reno and got fleas -> worms, but I'd get it again if I had to. I don't think you need a vet prescription (but this was outside the US).
