They're both--I mean, those words mean the same thing.

That is curious. I had thought perhaps that cherry was a variant of sakura, or perhaps the other way around.

It's something to do with the way we all understand each other. They both mean both the blossoms and the type of... tree that normally produces them, which isn't the Tree itself.

Sakura is something a bit more. It's like I can see layers in it, if you understand?

I have seen "cherry" used to refer to fruit and to modify color, as in "cherry red". Sakura is not used in the same way?
