If you get an MP3 player, and you plan to use it while exercising, then I would suggest not getting one that has a built in harddrive, but is rather solid state. Explaining: MP3 players typically 2 gigs and under are "Flash" based players, and do not have moving parts. The Higher end iPods have little harddrives in them and dropping them while running, or constantly moving them can only lead to crashing.
The iPod nano 4 and 8 gig are flash based, as are other MP3 players (I have 512 meg flash based MP3 player that will play for about 20 hours on a single AA. Really, if you don't care about flash and style, and more about getting one that works, you can find some good ones on online for under 40 bucks. Keep an eye on www.woot.com They sell some every few weeks, (one deal, one day). Most are nomads or such. I have an iRiver I got off there for 39.99.
