You know, part of me feels like the direction the show's going in, Castle's going to call it quits with Beckett this episode, and that's going to involve giving her all the information he's been collecting about her mother's death just to have a clean slate when he goes and buddies up with Adam Baldwin's character. I'm not saying he hates her, but he finds out that Martha's right. He can't shut off his love for her, but he can't be around her at the same time. I hope this turns out to be true, because then we won't have Castle's secret looming over the season finale.
You know, I have to admit, I like angry, bitter Castle. Not forever, mind you, but I feel like his anger over being shut out by Beckett over those three months has been dormant in him this whole time- I think it's about time it comes bubbling to the surface. I'm not sure we're going to get the confrontation before the season finale, but I hope Rick (and the audience) gets the catharsis of a big old blow out. And then maybe some make-up mackage. : )

In (maybe only my) perfect world? Martha calls Castle out for being a Mr. Grumpypants, and forces him to admit that that's a large part of it, that he felt abandoned and that his declaration was marginalized. That admission, or perhaps something Martha says, herself, causes Castle to remember Beckett (and Montgomery and the boys, by proxy) being similarly pissed summer before last, after he shut them out, and then, epiphany! The timing of Demming's departure becomes more suspect. Josh, Beckett's trouble with him, and their subsequent break up make sense, and Castle has context for Beckett's confessions in the quarantine tent ("Setup") and on the swings.
I'm not saying everything has to make sense, or that this is his mess to fix - Beckett's gotta step up to the plate, here. But, him figuring out a little more of what Beckett's been feeling/struggling with since long before his declaration of love can only help diffuse the
