I too am dipping my toes into the relaunch in hope of finding good stuff.
And yeah. This book was just such a lacklustre book to lead with. There really is not much happening in this issue. I find it hard to believe that any new readers are gonna read it and go "Oh I must find out more about these people!"
Batman and Green Lantern are both kind of blandly characterised, the dialogue between them was irritating rather than witty - Green Lantern in particular came across as a character I want little to do with.
I will probably give it another issue too but it just felt like such a wasted opportunity to re-introduce us to these characters in an interesting way!
My shopping list is much like yours but will probably try Batwing (purely for the Africa thing), Swamp Thing and Animal Man (both because I've heard good things about the writers).
Cool, I look forward to hearing from you about the comics I'm not picking up - let me know if I'm wrong!
Finchy mentioned two bits from the comic that were quite funny, notably "you're not just a guy dressed as a Bat are you?" and Batman nicking GL's ring. I had to admit that those bits were a bit funny. I do love to see Batman running intellectual rings around smartarses but it's not like GL was much of a challenge. Why not release an issue which is just Batman repeatedly kicking a puppy?
Would bet Ryan Reynolds would be a heavyweight challenger for most smack-in-the-mouthable GL. I am looking forward to reading this in an interest-only kind of way - if I had to do a JL comic I would most definitely start with Batman, but my other picks would be Canary, WW, and Green Arrow. I think that could make an awaesome comic. Have heard the rebooted GA is laaaaaaaame though, so maybe swap for Martian Manhunter. Y'know, maybe we should just write these ourselves in our heads. Cheaper, and more satisfying.
Are you thinking of picking up Detective Comics #1? I have heard it's good and Batman is normally a crunchy kind of superhero. Or, dammit, read a Bendis comic. If you like banter and character arcs, then lady you are looking in the wrong place!!!!
I have Detective Comics #1. You can read it on Friday! Definitely not one for me, sadly but I think that's more about the tone of the comic. I found Batman a lot less enjoyable in that than in either of the JL comics this month, but that's mostly because of the humourless writing & heavy violence. Which might be perfectly fine for Batman, just not for Tansy.
It's definitely better if we write them in our heads.

It would probably get a Hugo nom.
