Day 01 - A book series you wish had gone on longer OR a book series you wish would just freaking end already (or both!)

I love the Stephanie Plum books. I love everything about them - I love the flawed and (mostly) unapologetic heroine, I love the quirky and colourful supporting ( Read more... )

I haven't read book 16 yet, but so agree with everything you wrote. I too wish she would end up with Ranger, am getting completely annoyed with the dragging out and the constant putting together/pulling apart of Steph and Morelli.
I too love Grandma Mazur, the fact that she keeps blowing up or destroying cars and somehow manages to solve cases despite being a really inept bounty hunter.
A conclusion very soon would be very much appreciated.

I have to say I am one of those who has walked away from the series after being a totally hooked fan. I looked at sixteen and just said "no". The sense of treading water with no destination in sight has got the better of me.

There is another factor and it is just speculation on my part. There were some very odd changes in writing style in 15 that combined with the go-nowhere plot. It really did make me wonder if Evanovich was farming out the basic writing duties. I don't have any proof apart from the gut feeling about the style and some odd word usages, but it did make me wonder about how the series has become a big business. I wonder how much Dunkin' Donuts paid to have Stephanie change over to their product from Krispy Kreme.

(Not criticizing authors for wanting to make a buck here - everybody has to eat.)

You lasted longer than me - I'm afraid I gave up at To The Nines, once I realised that the emotional side of the story was not really going to develop and the crime stuff started getting rather distasteful in an attempt to remain interesting. But like you I really loved the earlier books - there was a time in my life when I looked forward to changing planes in Vienna in the hope that there might be a new Stephanie Plum novel out!
