Yep, that IS brilliant. That the editing and re-writing process can be like tuning in to a sharper, clearer picture - or transforming a 2 dimensional picture into a living experience. Also brilliant that you got to witness it.
Tender Morsels is on my reading list for Clarion - and I've just seen it in Fullers Bookshop in Hobart. When I next get paid, oh the books I will buy.

You're going to Clarion, how exciting! Is it a self-imposed list, or one the organisers recommended?

It's really starting to sink in now, and yes it is exciting. :D
As for the reading list? The conveners offer suggestions drawn from the tutor's previous work - Margo Lanagan is one of the tutors, and they have suggested 'Tender Morsels' as it is her latest, and 'White Time' as those are the stories she wrote as a Clarion student. But I have been eyeing it off in any case. It sounds mind-bending and very intense. And a welcome break from attempting to write a potted history of the Tasmanian Postal and Telegraph service!

It is indeed a brilliant book. But for me, it was ALL a surpirse, having seen none of it before. What a wonderful journey it was.
