Exciting news!

I just found out yesterday that the state goverment is giving me an arts grant to write Three Janes and a Haunting, my gothic Tasmanian YA novel featuring Jane Franklin, demonic possession, time travel and a houseful of plucky but messed up psychic orphan girls.

Someone I knew thought Livia was actually played by Juliet Landau, but no. An excellent season though. I do think it was a good idea to change the actor for Octavian, if only because it's something like 15 years later by the end (which leads to the question of everyone else remaining the same-ish). I'm not quite sure where they could have gone with a third season, but that may just be my almost entirely non-existant knowledge of the period.

And yes, people have done good things with rape as a backstory, but it's so over. People should move on.

As far as the rape scene goes, if you wrote about it from the POV of the victim not too long after it happened, she could potentially not remember details at that stage due to the trauma, and then if you wanted to you could seed the occasional memory/flashback through later on the novel to make it a little clearer, or you could just leave the details hazy. I'm a fan of 'hazy' myself, but if you do want to include it in the novel, that's just one suggestion. It's (sadly) fairly easy to imply rape and let the readers draw their own conclusions with the right words.
