Title: Jensen and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend Original Prompt: The Birds (1963) Artist: cassiopeia7 Rating: G (implied J2) Warning: A distressing lack of respect for the classics. Summary: The Birds gets a makeover. Alfred Hitchcock is not amused. Media: Pen, marker, PS6 graphics, and a smidgen of insanity. A/N: Hugs and roses to quickreaver for the massive shot of confidence, and big ole hugs to the modly Divas of spn_cinema for allowing us movie freaks to come out and play. What would we do without you? ♥
It's not exactly what I'd planned to submit for this particular prompt, but . . . here be art?
[Back-door arting.] A/N: The idea surfaced while watching the movie. Tippi Hedren's iconic sea-green suit led to thoughts of how good Jensen looks in green, one thing led to another, and a project was born. :) This was originally intended to be a multi-part artset, kind of a MAD Magazine-style parody of the entire movie. Alas, I had taken on entirely too many projects and ran out of time, energy, and motivation, so ended up completing only the poster. :(
Thumbnail sketches inserted into poster prototype:
It took a while to get the elements in position and find fonts that worked. Fun, but took a hellish amount of time. I now have even more respect for master Photoshopper and poster-maker lightthesparks. \o/
Melanie!Jensen, final ink and partial color:
Completed color Jensen and b&w Hitchcock minus the digital shenanigans.:
I cheated on the big shadow bird -- drew and colored him separately, then digitally reduced his opacity and overlaid him over Jensen's face, because it's Jensen's faaaaace -- I ain't messing that up. At least not any more than I already do. :)
Abandoned* concept sketches, from hastily scribbled thumbnails to beta-ready drafts. Each piece is based upon an actual screenshot from the film -- if you know the movie, you'll probably recognize most of the compositions. *(Okay, not "abandoned," as I have every intention to finish this. Entirely too much work went into these to just drop them.)
