Yeah, they only called HALF the CFD in on that "minor" derailment, LOL.
And I suppose . . . compared to the train that fell OFF that Lake Street "S" curve and into the street, way back in '77 . . . I suppose this incident was minor. ;) Comparatively speaking. XD
You know, it cracks me up to watch the CTA Twitter* and see all these alerts of issues and such, but I'm impressed by how soon they get things back up and running. I ride Metra BNSF, which is the busiest line in the whole system, and any lil thing will shut them down for hours - plus their PR/outreach on these issues are seriously lacking. I've waited an hour at my stop for a train, get on, THEN see on Twitter that the train is experiencing mechanical problems.
*Not like I ever ride the El, but they're one of our clients and I like seeing their project updates (especially the ones we're working on).
Those are wise words, indeed. Back when I worked out in Deerfield, I'd occasionally take the Milwaukee North train out there and . . . yeah. "Oops, the shadow of a pigeon just flew over the tracks -- STOP THE TRAINS!!"
Ugh, ugh, ugh. Not exactly my worst fear, but every time I get onto the Tube while slightly needing to pee, I dread being one of these 'stuck for two hours' stories. TMI, and yet, it haunts me.
And hot, airless, some fool smoking... That sounds like much no fun at all. Glad you're okay, and home.
I have taught generations (about 8 years' worth, but humour me) of new colleagues the 3 golden rules of inspection: 1) never turn down a loo break for you never know when your next one will come. 2) Always accept a cup of tea when offered, because it makes you less scary (these two rules are closely linked).
The third one is that the most useful question you can ask about a service is 'So, this management chain. How does that work in practice?', though it's less relevant to today's situation. (It generates answers lasting anything up to 45 minutes and is a major predictor of whether somewhere basically works.)
IDK, the CTA has been taking out cars and pedestrians left and right; Metra's been whacking pedestrians . . . maybe this is just a bad year for trains?

2. At least it wasn't a fight on your still moving train, like I had to endure a while back while going to the homeopath. It was SCARY.

Red or Blue? There tends to be fewer crazies on the Blue . . . mostly. ;)

Service on the Red Line has resumed with residual delays after an earlier, minor derailment near Armitage.

. . . though from the smell of some of those train cars, some folks just go wherever.

Ask that of CTA management, and you won't like the answer. Assuming you even GET an answer. ;D
