That IS discriminatory! Why do you have a cane? Sorry to see that you've got another problem. I hope you'll still have your job, even if your boss is a bitch, you need a job. *hugs* Thinking of you.
I was injured by a student back in April and have been walking ever since with a cane. My boss at the Jewelry store didn't like my prolonged use of the cane.
At least I might have some unemployment benefits. I'll see if my attorney can site my employer for his behavior.
They can't sack you because of ill health. That IS discrimination, and you are entirely in the right to talk to your solicitor. Even better, mention when (if) you get that call that you have spoken with your solicitor on the issue - not aggressively, just conversationally. If you do your job you do your job, and whether or not you have a cane is irrelevant.
Thanks so much. On the one hand I know that what's being done is wrong, but on the other hand people get away with it all the time so I almost don't want to get my hopes up.
Just because it's an employer's market is no reason for the employers to treat staff like shit. Go to HR, go to the Union, and if you have to, go to the law. It isn't right!
Good news is that I spoke with my atourney and I was refered to the EEOC, so, let's hope things will be running smoothly in that regard. Oh, and I did file for unemployment benefits. So, we'll see what happens while I look for another job.
