As KPIG's Travis T. Hipp points out, the Bay Bridge, like Hipp himself, is in it's 70's. Our infrastructure is going to hell. Obama needs to start a program whereby some of these unemployed people are put to work fixing broken shit and doing maintenance on stuff that's about to give.
I figure that well-thought-out infrastructure repair would be put people to work and would be a practical investment in our collective future. The WPA again.
Also, on a grimmer note, I sometimes wonder what minimal infrastructure we need to keep going, to keep ourselves and our cities alive. I'm not thinking about glassy smooth 20 lane freeways for people to fly down in their SUVs.
I'm thinking more about the minimal infrastructure what we need to move food, people, and goods. Or the transmission lines needed to move enough electricity to keep our cities alive. Or the aqueducts that keep most of California from drying up.

Yes. Please.
The main Innerbelt bridge in Cleveland is operating at reduced lane usage because they don't think it can handle full weight. Fire engines won't cross it anymore. They just tore off part of an onramp to try to reduce the load.
