So when (hopefully) both airports fall into NAF hands will that reduce the shelling of the larger cities?? I take it that artillery positioned at the airport(s) is one of the main causes of continued shelling
In the case of Donetsk this is definitely true. In the case of Luhansk, the airport is a pain for NAF communications but the city is shelled mostly from the North. So, the AFU need to be firmly pushed out of Metallist, Schastye, Stanitsa Luganskaya, and of all settlements to the west of Lugansk to eliminate the threat.
Also, the junta can shell Donetsk from some of the northern suburbs and western suburbs. So, taking the airports definitely helps, but doesn't solve the problem completely.

Tochka-U has that kind of range. Actually even greater. But the ones that the Ukies have tend to have very poor CEP. These morons almost hit my former high school with a poorly targeted Tochka-U.
Also, the Smerch has that kind of range. Again, I doubt that it is very practical to use it at these distances.
Overall, if the major strongholds of the punitive troops within 20km are routed, then the artillery barrages will definitely stop and people will be able to breathe. In Shakhtyorsk and other cities to the southeast this already happened. Some refugees even came back to Shakhtyorsk.
This goes to the question of "who's to blame for artillery barrages". Once Ukies are gone, there are no barrages.
Yeah, I saw some MSM crap the other day about the "Pro Russian" militia (well you would be if you spoke Russian as a first language - duh!!) flattening one of their own villages / towns . . . .yeah right. As you say That'll put paid to that crap, the Ukies being gone.
