It amazes me that people will allow a political view point to ruin even a passing friendship. My views on the world have driven away phayra, and ladybug007in the long run. Both people I respect(ed) for their strong view points ( Read more... )

It doesn't surprise or even amaze me. I think it's probably the best way to be true to one's self. If love of political discussions is who you are then it's easier to be nonchalant about others views. If being all accepting of every view is who you are, then the same. But to some people, their political views match who they are and everything they stand for. Therefore they would not be true to themselves to have anything to do with someone who was against all they stand for, and essentially against who they are.

I know we don't agree on everything and it was always the biggest strain on our friendship, more than anything else. But I love you so most of the time I try to grit my teeth and agree to disagree.
