Hello all! I've been fairly quiet on LJ recently due to several factors - being pretty busy at work being the biggest - but if there's one thing that will make me post, it's BSG.
I love the mutiny episodes, but this past episode left me a little disappointed, actually. Not that it was particularly bad, mind you. It was just heavily over-written. I get that they need to put a lot of new backstory into the mix, and they have a very limited amount of episodes to do that in, but this was just too much all at once. They should have titled it Exposition. That's pretty much all it was.
It was quite an info dump. But it was all information that I found very interesting and that needed to be told. So I was okay with it. But yeah, I did have to watch it twice.
I'm glad they are putting that info out there, but this just seemed like a really lazy way to do it. "Hey, I know! We'll just hit one of them on the head and have him 'remember' a whole lot of stuff, then he can tell everybody else! Genius!" Sorry no, that's lazy, not brilliant. And I expect better from BSG.
Fair enough. I don't know many ways all that info could have been 'shown' instead of 'told' though. I mean, a whole hell of a lot of flashbacks would do it I suppose, but considering that half of the episode was already flashback (all the Ellen stuff), that probably would have been too much. I dunno. I see what your saying, and maybe I'm just overly geeked out, but I didn't mind it as much.
I'm loving the final episodes so far. Tigh gets cooler and cooler as they go by, and I never ever thought I'd say that! He and Adama are in the midst of an interesting role reversal.
I agree that there were some shades of Apollo the Viper pilot during the mutiny scenes - The no-nonsense warrior running around with Starbuck.
I'm so happy that Chief is back! I actually cheered while we were watching the episode. And yes, I adored his response to being in love with Tory. I wonder if that's going to play out - is he going to find out that Tory killed Cassie?
I think I'm the only one who liked Cally. There must have been a key moment somewhere that endeared me to her and after that I liked her no matter what. *shrug* Anyway, I think Tori needs to die in a fire for spacing her. At the very least the issue needs to be put to rest between Tori and Chief somehow.
I just loved-LOVED-when Starbuck shoots the two crewmen, glances at the third with true, unadulterated boldness, and says "I could do this all day." That was a stupendous Starbuck moment. Those mutiny episodes were great. Just desserts. I've been quite happy with 4.5 so far.

I hope he does find out Tory killed Cally. As much as I couldn't stand Cally, she shouldn't just get away with that without some serious guilt.
