If my life were a TV show, this past weekend would have been some kind of season finale. The details paint an unhappier picture than the reality, but SUFFICE TO SAY that it was loosely comprised of losing almost all of my valuables, the people I care about having no idea where I was for a few hours, and ending up at a police station in the middle ( Read more... )

I'm glad you're ok! Sounds like an exciting season finale though, lol

The last book I read was the Hunger Games triology and I was terribly disappointed by the ending. So I'm sticking to the classics and rereading The Count of Monte Cristo, which I love.

Thanks! I feel hugely lucky to be okay.

Yeah, I heard that a lot of people were disappointed about the way the Hunger Games trilogy panned out.
I always end up going back to the classics. I haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo - thanks for the rec!

oh my goodness :( i'm glad you're okay! i hope the rest of your season is filled with relaxation!!

as far as book recs go -- i always rec the history of love first, but i think you may have already read that? i also love "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius" & "the bell jar" & "brideshead revisited"! currently i'm reading "game of thrones" & "atonement" but i'm so unfocused on anything, it's horrible!

Ah, thank you! Me too, me too!

I have bought The History of Love because you and Neda recommended it and I trust you both but I haven't read it yet! I've kind of been ~saving it. I read Great House and I was like OH MY GOD WOW so I'm saving other Nicole Krauss stuff for rainy days. Which is silly. I should read it next. Thanks for the other recs - I also have The Bell Jar and Brideshead Revisited on my shelf, waiting to be read.
I loved Atonement! How are you finding it?

it isn't silly! there are tons of books i've been "saving" too, even though i want to read them -- i don't understand why!! brideshead and the bell jar are great. breakfast at tiffany's, too!!

i'm LOVING it! i saw the movie already so i know what happens, but ugh. the writing is so beautiful. it's heartbreaking in a way that hurts sooo good. :(

Ah, my friend said some strange things about Breakfast at Tiffany's - she said that it was like Capote was observing people's lives rather than creating a story. That made me want to read it. I'll have to find a copy if you're recommending it too!

Yes, the writing in Atonement is heartwrenchingly gorgeous. There were times that I would finish a paragraph and have to stop just to process its magnificence.

It was, it was crazy! Thanks, I hope the season is unrealistically pleasant!

I haven't read The Shadow of the Wind, no! I've heard that it's good, though, so I'll check it out. Thanks!
I've read Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro and I'm afraid I didn't like it at all. But I'm told that his other works are great.

Oh, I had no idea it was even a series!

Yeah, I've been meaning to read Remains of the Day but Never Let Me Go kind of put me off. If you're recommending it despite disliking NLMG, though, I'll definitely check it out. :)

HI!

I was browsing through failbook and this reminded me too much of you so I came back to LJ to find you.

Also, I hope you have recovered well from this scary sounding incident. Nothing too traumatic, I hope? I know it's like, five months ago, (so sorry for being awol for so long).

By the by, I saw in the comments someone recommended Shadow of the Wind - it was quite good! the 2nd book is the Angel's game and the new one is the Prizoner of Heaven.

How have you been finding our new season?

Hi Casi_casi,
this LJ layout doesnt display the date so I have no idea when you posted it, if you ever still check LJ?

Anyway hope you're ok?

Actually the reason i sought you out is because eons ago you wrote a fic that made me smile and stayed with me through all the years; The Heist. I saved it and I love it so much, it's one of favourite liverpool stories.

I hope things look up for you, I'm here if you want to chat, about anything! and I can totally give you encouragement to write if thats what you need. :)
