Movie Review: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

As I believe I have mentioned to some tedium, I was lucky enough to attend the world première of this film in Dublin last week, and as I've never been to one before it was quite an experience. Everyone was in their best togs but it was a bit disconcerting to see people with buckets of popcorn - it didn't seem quite right somehow. But what a change ( Read more... )

Based on your review, I'll be looking for this film once it hits this side of the pond.

ITA: movie adaptations of novels are wispy things - sometimes they get it almost-right; most of the time they bomb.

Recent success includes No Country for Old Men - which got the plot and the characters spot on, but excluded a lot of the philosophical underpinnings. Best ever? To Kill a Mockingbird.

I think it's out in November over your way. When I spoke to John Boyne at the premiere he said he was very pleased with the adaptation, and if the author says that what more can you ask?

BTW I totally agree about To Kill a Mockingbird - that was excellent.

Which brings me onto my next topic ...

I still haven't received David Thewliss, who you did promise to kidnap, tie up and deliver. I've been waiting in for the postman, but there's been nothing so far. Perchance has he got lost in the mail?
