Sort of shameful confession: my first exposure to Neruda was the quotes in Truly, Madly, Deeply. If anything was going to make me want to read further, it was hearing Alan Rickman quote Neruda.
Sort of like hearing Ron Perlman's Vincent, from the 1980s CBS series Beauty and the Beast, quote Rilke--suddenly I needed to read everything Rilke ever wrote. I even went so far as to track down the exact editions of the precise translations used on the show--even minor variations sounded "wrong", to me. Still do.
