My thoughts on some of the issues brought up in 9.01....

There's been a lot of discussion about Sam's "right to die", and the choice that Dean made, so Sam could live.

<333 I'm so glad you're on board, bb! Yes, it's not perfect, and it's probably going to have some messy fall-out, but it's such a really fucking interested and complicated storyline. It's the first time in a really long time that I'm genuinely interested to see how this plays out in more than just an "I LOVE THESE BOYS AND WILL WATCH THEM FOREVER!!!!" sort of way. I really don't get all the hate for this episode. Yes, there is obviously the issue of consent, but it's hardly the first time Dean has hurt Sam to save him, and I'm with you that Sam didn't really want to die, not really; he just didn't see another option until Dean was there to give him one. And you know what? There may be a lot of shades of gray there, but Sam did consent. He consented to letting Dean follow through with whatever his plan was without asking for the details because he trusts Dean. For the first time in years/seasons, there is actually trust between them, which just makes the possible fall out from this all the more tragic, especially given that Dean ( ... )

Yay, I'm glad you agree, bb! <333 I love that it's such a complicated and messy storyline, and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I don't get all the hate, either. And that's a good point... in a sense, Sam did consent without asking for the details because he trusts his brother. It was a beautiful moment of hope... that the situation could be fixed, and Sam wanted that, he wanted to live. And yes, Dean wants to tell Sam, but Sam could die, if he decides to reject Ezekiel. There's no other choice but to keep it secret for now. I love that Dean is putting Sam's life first, above everything else.

There are just so many complications and interesting ways this could go!!!

Yes!!!

Yeah, I don't care about the scenes with Cas, either.

I agree hon. For me, there was no option. Dean was in an impossible situation and was up against a ticking clock with no time left. I would have made the same decision. There ain't no Dean if there ain't no Sam and there ain't no show without BOTH brothers. <333333

Exactly, hon. There was no other option, no time left, and Dean did the right thing. I would have made the same decision, too.

There ain't no Dean if there ain't no Sam and there ain't no show without BOTH brothers. <333333

Amen to that! <33333333

Completely agree, BB. Sam was ready to die, because he didn’t see a reason to live, poor baby :(( and there was just NO other option for Dean but to let his baby brother live. I don't know if Sam would have said yes if Dean had had more time and had been able to tell him what the plan was? and yes he tricked him and Sam unknowingly being possessed is really terribly creepy but the only thing that's keeping him alive atm too and, so again, Dean's only option. Also, I truly need to believe Ezekiel's good intentions here which is healing Sam and not violating him. As you've said elsewhere and what I agree with 1000%: "what matters to me is that Dean made this choice out of love for Sam. It outweighs everything else" I don't think that's wrong, letting Sam die and never come back this time would be crossing the line for me. I don't want them to ever end up dying separately ( ... )

Glad you agree, bb. Poor Sam, he'd given up, but he really wanted to live, and this is the only way it can happen.

I don't know if Sam would have said yes if Dean had had more time and had been able to tell him what the plan was?

Dean thought that Sam would never say yes, so I think it would've been very risky to tell Sam, even if there had been more time.

Same here, I see it as Ezekiel having "good intentions here which is healing Sam and not violating him." I don't know how it'll play out, but I'm not going to make negative assumptions about Ezekiel's character.

Yes, the love outweighs everything else. And like you say, Sam dying and never coming back would be crossing the line. I know that some of fandom is upset with Dean's choice, but really, there was nothing else he could do. I love that he could make such a difficult choice, whatever the fallout may be. Knowing SPN, I'm pretty sure that Sam will freak when he finds out, but I hope he will understand why Dean did it, and come to accept it.
