Yea, it's kinda cool they both get one. I guess there were 3 functional cars. From what I read, the car they used the most that was really suped up will be Jensen's. The second car they used will be Jared's, although they said it requires a lot of work. The third car, which I think is the trick car, will go back to the studio.
I can just see it now, Jensen helping Jared fix up his Impala just like Dean would do the cars. Gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies.
It's very cool. Yes, the one that's in best condition will be Jensen's. On the recent podcast, Jensen said he'll add air conditioning and put in new speakers and a radio system, but leave the rest of it the same. I assume that means squeaky doors too, lol.
I love the idea of Jensen helping Jared to fix his Impala. It would give them a feeling of being Sam and Dean again. Aww, it gives me the warm fuzzies, too.
Jensen talks about the Impala at the 1 hour 16 minutes mark of the podcast, so it's towards the end. He also didn't know at that point if Jared was taking an Impala or not.
I read somewhere that he said he would also leave the squeaky doors as is.
That's awesome. I went back and listened to that part again, and he did say he'd leave the squeak in the door... I somehow didn't hear him say that the first time.
I kind of thought they both would get one. And in the Rosenbaum/Jensen interview, Jensen said they were offering Jared one, it was more a matter if he wanted it or not. But it would be a great keepsake, and they can rent them back to the studio for any future mini-seires *BEAMS*
Yes, and I was surprised that Jared hadn't decided yet if wanted an Impala. But I'm happy to see that he wants it now. That's a very good point, they can use them again for any future mini-series! :DDD
Before the series, Jared and his dad had worked on restoring a muscle car for Jared to drive, and Jensen hadn't mentioned interest in cars, or muscle cars, or in mechanical work on them.
But after the series began, Jared sort of dropped that subject--or people never asked him about it because it wasn't part of Sam's character. But because fans expressed such interest in *Dean's* Impala (and for at least half the season it was "the car"--and if I remember correctly, until they started filming they hadn't nailed it down to '67 Impala--it was just "Dad's big old car (other contenders were Plymouth and Olds) with a trunk big enough to haul bodies and an arsenal." But the more the car became part of the show, the more it became "Dean's car," and it wasn't until a couple of dialog bits where Dean referred to the car affectionately as 'baby' that it began to be known as and called "Baby." --your fandom Old with a brain for nitpicky detail and a magpie memory.
Interesting that the subject got dropped, because it wasn't part of Sam's character. I've always loved the scene in 6.22, when Sam sees the Impala and says "That's mine". He's lost his memory, but somehow he still recognizes it. Even though it's clearly Dean's car, I love moments that show Sam feels a connection to it, too.
I love how "baby" went from being an endearment, to being the name of the car.
I think I've mentioned before that when I was a teen my mom owned an Impala. It was maybe a 1968 model. It was sort of a gold color. Really pretty at that time.
Me, too. Happy and sad tears. Knowing they'll both have Impalas means they'll have an important part of the show with them always. Baby(s) will always feel loved! *more tears*

It's awesome that your mom owned an Impala. Sounds like a very pretty color on a beautiful car. The one on the show is a 1967 model.
