I've seen a lot of talk about Sam not being smart when he blows on the burning spell at the end of the ep. But this ep is full of references to Indiana Jones movies. Check out the vid, and you'll see Indy's father blowing on the lighter when he tries to put it out, and he makes things worse.

Okay, I can see the echoing, but it's still a dumb move, no matter who they had do it. In Raiders, it was for comic effect. Not so funny when Sam did it...whatevs. This show, dudes.

I agree, it's dumb, but I wanted to point this out, because it isn't just Sam being randomly stupid. I'm tired of all the "omg, Sam is such an idiot" posts, so I had to say something

And the spell was already partially burned by the time Sam got to it, so it probably wouldn't have made any difference.

That's a fair point, but I don't think the reference quite works here since Show wasn't playing it for laughs and trying to put a fire that big by blowing just isn't very smart (and Sam's smart enough to know that). Sometimes a reference just doesn't work out.

Whether it was played for comedy or not, it's still a reference from the movie, and I was pointing this out, because Sam isn't just being randomly stupid. It gives a reason for Sam's behavior, even if it doesn't work the same way as it did in the movie. It's dumb, but it's not Sam's normal way of doing things.

Really tired of all the "Sam is an idiot" posts out there, so I had to say something.

I would point that finger at the writers, not at Sam. I guess to references like these applies the same "killing your darlings" rule as to writing. :)
