When he said Cas was his father, that was the first round of tears for me. And when Sam was trying to be so kind, even though it was obvious that he was scared spitless, that broke my heart a little more. I'm really looking forward to Sam being Jack's support.
I find it very interesting that Jack chose Cas as his father. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that that isn't the last word we've heard on that matter (I mean, it's ep 1 of the season, so plenty of time for plot twists).
Sam very naturally stepped up to protect Jack and I think that in many ways he's a better father figure to Jack than Cas since he understands how blood doesn't define goodness.
I think that Cas understands that now, too, though. He didn't in the beginning... I remember my heart breaking for Sam a little when Cas called him "the boy with the demon blood". :(
But Cas died knowing who Jack's bloodline was descended from, and still believing that he was going to be good and going to save the world. <3 So I do think that Cas understands that blood doesn't define goodness at this point. I'm very curious to see what happens when he eventually comes back. I'd imagine that might be a bit of a tense scenario by that point. :P lol

Yes! Sam is a wonderful father figure, especially because he can relate to Jack's issues (having powers).

And of course, the nougat scene! I had to make an icon of that moment.
