In Mystery Spot, Sam order pancakes on the first day...

DEAN
Yes. I'll have the special, side of bacon and a coffee.

SAM
Make it two coffees and a short stack.

But after that, he doesn't order anything.

That's true, some of the writers haven't seen all the old eps. And even if they have, it doesn't necessarily mean that the pancake thing was intentional. But I've also heard that they suggest that writers at least watch the eps that are essential for understanding the show, and Mystery Spot is one of the most beloved eps. I guess we'll never know, and it's probably a coincidence, but it's still very cool. :)

Thanks! :D I loved seeing discussion about this, and it's interesting to think that Sam avoids eating pancakes in diners because of the events in Mystery Spot.

He's never going to want pancakes ever again. It probably reminds him of his never ending Tuesday and losing Dean.

Oh wow, I've never noticed that before! I just assumed it was all linked to Sam's more healthy lifestyle, but that's a cool idea too, that he can't eat pancakes because of what happened to Dean in that episode :)

Exactly, it seems like a healthy lifestyle thing, and it hadn't occurred to me before that it could also be connected to Mystery Spot! And now, pancakes remind him of what happened to Dean back then.
