It's heartbreaking to see Sam flinch as Mary shuts the door. A very sad moment for both boys.

I dunno, it's funny.... He's totally hurt and sad, but to me, the flinch was more of a bit of a flashback moment to Toni coming, once again, to fuck with him in the basement. Just me, I guess, since nobody else has had that interpretation. I mean - he's been *tortured* (again). I imagine he has about a billion triggers, at this point, and that just seemed like one more.

But him being utterly devastated at his mom leaving is also very valid.
