This scene reminds me of Sam in Sacrifice... giving his blood, and willing to die.

And just like in Sacrifice, Sam is messed up, but he looks so beautiful.

YES. He was awfully beautiful that scene - just like Season 8 and just like Season 8, Dean came and cupped his face in his hands and told him he could stop now. They would do it together. :'(

You know what I think is interesting and important about this scene is that the hallucination couldn't simply persuade Sam to kill himself like it did with the others; it had to trick him into sacrificing himself. There's an important distinction between being willing to die, and wanting to die.

This scene is so powerful. It's so essentially Sam. It's about giving his all. its about the sacrifice. It's about him believing that he HAS to give everything to mean something. It's heartbreaking and kind of amazing. Oh Sam!
