THE GROUP.
After School is a currently eight-member south korean girl group formed in january, 2009 by pledis entertainment. they debuted with the members park kahi, kim jungah, yoo soyoung, lee jooyeon, and bekah. park kahi, leader, worked heavily with her company and management on the formation of after school, modeling their image after the concept of the pussycat dolls. they debuted with the single AH in january. april 2009, they released their second digital single, DIVA, and introduced new member UEE to the group. they announced that they would have a concept different to most groups presently in south korea and be a 'graduating' girl group: a group where new members are admitted and current ones are free to leave or 'graduate' and pursue solo activities. october 2009 saw the departure of member yoo soyoung for health and academic reasons. for their second single album comeback BECAUSE OF YOU in november 2009, members nana and raina were added to the group. in march 2010, after school made another comeback with their third single album BANG! in which they spent five months learning the marching snares (starting during their BECAUSE OF YOU promotions) for kahi's drumline concept. the comeback also announced another new member, lizzy, being added to the group, putting their official member tally at eight and their discography at three single albums and five promotional singles. in may 2010 following the end of their BANG! promotional period, pledis revealed that after school will form two unique subgroups of three for a period of time, and one member will go solo. so far, nana and raina have been revealed as part of the subgroup 'orange caramel' and kahi will be solo.

before becoming leader and helping form after school, from 2000-2006 kahi was a famous back-up dancer for various big name stars in south korean entertainment (SME, JYPE, and YG) such as BoA, lexy, 1TYM, and jinusean, as well as starring in various singles and music videos as a rapper and dancer. she was a late-bloomer in entertainment, becoming a professional dancer at the age of 20 after running away from home and holding down various odd jobs. in after school, kahi is a hands on, charismatic, and hard working leader, contributing singing, rapping, lyrics, choreography, and concept images to the group. she's a popular face on many korean variety television programs for her quirky personality, worldly air, and popular dance acts for stars like michael jackson and beyoncé.

in a sub-vocalist position, jooyeon was a famous internet ulzzang (re: professional camwhore) and introduced as son dambi's (another artist under pledis ent.) best friend on MBC's introduce star's friend before debuting in after school. known as a killer fashionista with knee-high stiletto boots and a vain streak to match, jooyeon is nevertheless a sweet girl with an overall mild personality around her awkward, revealing jokes and frequent gigglefests. ironically enough, she was also voted the one among the after school members who would be most suited to playing a villain. beware of those with aegyo!

this happy-go-lucky hawaii native was scouted from a casting call and immediately caught kahi's eye as a trainee in pledis. she holds a sub-vocalist and rapping position in the group. though her korean is still shaky and she doesn't speak much on screen (she has a habit of junking up words and subsequently swearing on national television, much to jungah's horror) she has the spirit and sunshiney energy to make up for it. her unique looks and skills in rapping, dancing, and singing are skyrocketing her to popularity and landing her spots collaborating with more of korea's megastars like lee hyori.

known first as wondergirls yoobin's best friend, UEE was added to after school as the first new admission after the initial line up. hard-working and strict, UEE tends to discipline the younger members of after school and pride herself when she actually has time to take showers (bekah divulges) during her hectic schedule. she initially received huge amounts of backlash for her 'dead expression' while performing with after school and her perceived 'overshadowing' of other members via her numerous other projects that careened her into korea's spotlight. UEE rose to popularity as an amazing dancer (most notably beyonce's single ladies with boom and 2pm's nickhun) and became the face for everything from activewear and jeans to soju, cellphones, and coach watches. she is better received now through interviews where she proves herself to have an honest, down-to-earth, and ambitious personality with a cute and sporty streak.
