RIP Dolemite
Rudy Ray Moore--AKA "Dolemite"--is dead at the age of 81.
Rudy Ray Moore and The World's Whitest Man--well, I look like it here--circa 1995. (I'm wearing a "Lord of Illusions" t-shirt; I was an extra in that Clive Barker flick a little before this.)
Dolemite was an underground comedian who pioneered rap and influenced the early hi-hop culture. He made some wonderfully filthy "party albums" and some terrible but hilarious blaxploitation flicks in the '70s and '80s...not to mention his live shows, which he continued doing until recently.
The pic was taken at a screening of the original "Dolemite" movie at the Nuart in LA, and Rudy Ray did some performing before and after the film as well. That was wonderful to see.
My favorite line from the film: "That rat-soup-eatin' insecure honky motherFUCKer!!!"
