No rebate for you!

I finally got around to investigating the Government water saving rebate scheme, since our rain water tank is due to be commissioned tomorrow. Reading the Vic Government website, i was very excited to see we were eligible for $1000, due to the size of our tank, and that it is connected to 2 toilets and the laundry! So printed off the forms in glee ( Read more... )

Oh, the Th!nk is so cute! We plan to drive my Ford into the ground (and it's a great little car, so should give us a few more years, despite being 13yo already) and then investigate a more enviro-friendly replacement.
We're keen on the solar electricity...but given what i know now, i really have to investigate the rebate system. I'd been making calculations based on being eligible for the very generous rebates. Without them, the system goes out of our reach for a few more years. If eligible, we hope to go down that path within a year or so.
I'm envious that your council is part of http://www.adelaidesolarcity.com.au/
No such initiatives happening here!
PS We never buy Australian rice. Yes, i know we are then paying for freight from asia, but if enough people stop buying aussie rice, then maybe they will be the message: Stop it, you stupid, stupid people!

We bought the Diesel Astra on the grounds that it is able to be driven on BioDiesel which is almost 100% carbon neutral (something like 98% of the CO2 emmitted is compensated by the absorbed CO2 in "growing" the fuel in the first place).

Unfortunately, trying to find BioDiesel is harder than it at first appeared. There are only a few outlets that even stock it, and even then the likelihhod of them actually having any in the tank turns out to be almost nil.

The upside is that the Astra uses about 5.8 L/100 km of fuel so is almost twice as efficient at the Festiva it replaced, and even using Dino-Diesel the CO2 emmissions are lower than a Petrol car (both refining and driving) so we are doing a bit, just not as much as we hoped.

We got the rebate for our solar hot water, but not for our pathetic 1000litre tank as Andreas installed it. One day we would love to do what you guys have done, but probably not in this house.

Oh, you got the rebate on your solar hot water, even though it was being connected to a brand new house? Must look into it for us, a bit more closely! How much did you get back?
1000L is not pathetic...every bit helps. :-)

Yep, same deal when I bought 5 star appliances, installed dual flush toilet etc. Some time after I moved in they started advertising rebates for such things, so I rang and enquire only to discover that I was too early. So for being environmentally friendly before everyone else got on the bandwagon got me nothin'
